Green silicon carbide powder used as environmental coating filler

Green Silicon Carbide Powder Used as Environmental Coating Filler

Green silicon carbide (green SiC) micropowder is widely adopted as a functional filler for eco‑friendly coatings (water‑based, powder coating, UV‑cured coatings). It is inorganic, non‑toxic, low‑volatile, and delivers multi‑functional performance without releasing harmful substances, matching environmental coating requirements.

Main Advantages

1. Outstanding wear‑resistant performance

With Mohs hardness of 9.4‑9.5, it is one of the hardest industrial inorganic fillers. When dispersed in coating films, it forms a hard protective layer to improve scratch‑resistance, abrasion‑resistance and erosion‑resistance, extending service life of coatings for floors, machinery and ship decks.

2. High chemical inertness & anti‑corrosion property

High purity (SiC ≥99%), resistant to strong acids, alkalis, salt solutions and most organic solvents. It fills micro‑pores inside coating films and builds a physical barrier, preventing corrosive media from penetrating substrates. Suitable for chemical equipment, marine and wastewater‑treatment protective coatings.

3. Good thermal stability & high‑temperature resistance

It remains stable up to 1200‑1400 ℃, does not decompose, burn or produce toxic fumes under high temperature. It is ideal for high‑temperature eco‑coatings for flues, boilers and heat‑exchange equipment; coating films will not crack or blister under thermal cycling.

4. Good insulation and high purity

Compared with black silicon carbide, green SiC contains very low free‑iron and free‑carbon impurities, and shows good insulating performance. It is suitable for high‑end insulating environmental coatings for power, electronics and photovoltaic equipment, avoiding metal‑ion contamination to substrates.

5. Thermal conductivity & anti‑slip function

It possesses moderate thermal conductivity, helping coatings achieve heat‑dissipation performance for power‑battery casings and heat‑dissipation components. Its angular particles increase surface friction for anti‑slip environmental coatings for walkways and ship decks.

6. Excellent compatibility with environmental coating systems

Fine‑graded green SiC micropowder features good dispersibility and suspension property. It is compatible with water‑based resins, UV‑curable resins and powder‑coating systems, and does not raise VOC emission. It can be used for low‑VOC, green industrial coating formulations.

7. Weather‑resistance and UV‑stability

It is stable under ultraviolet radiation, does not degrade under outdoor exposure, and improves weather‑resistance of fluorocarbon and outdoor eco‑coatings.

Typical Application Scenarios

  • Water‑based anti‑corrosion & wear‑resistant coatings for chemical equipment, ship decks and industrial floors
  • UV‑cured eco‑coatings for furniture and hardware surfaces
  • High‑temperature environmental protective coatings for chimneys and heat‑exchange devices
  • Insulating functional coatings for photovoltaic and electronic equipment
  • Powder coatings for outdoor heavy‑duty protective applications
